How to Hire the Right Land Surveyor

When hiring a Land Surveyor, there are several factors that can make all the difference in the success of your project.

HiringBarrineauTrusted Partner: You (and your partners) have invested a lot of time and money into your project. Things can get quickly complicated if everyone doesn’t work together like a well oiled machine. Hire a Land Surveyor that has the experience to work side by side with engineers, architects, contractors, lending institutions and government agencies. This will save you time, money, and headaches!

Licensed and Insured: Not only will a professional Land Surveyor & Mapper be up to date on all the latest procedures and laws, they should be fully insured to reduce any liability on your part. By being fully licensed and insured, they will be fully accountable for their part as you hire a team to work on your project.

Technology: Latest technologies help a Land Surveyor to be more accurate and efficient. Their services should include the latest versions of AutoCAD and GPS/RTK equipment in the industry today. It is important to be up-to-date with Robotic Total Stations, data collectors, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Reputation: Many Land Survey & Mapping companies have been around for 20… 50… or even hundreds of years! No matter how old (or young) a Land Survey company is, it is imperative they understand the old-fashioned values that  characterize a responsible and respectable business. Ask around before hiring or research online, to see if they have been working hard to treat their customers right while doing a quality job.

Quality: Mistakes can be costly and may delay projects. Hire a Land Surveyor & Mapper that takes pride in their work, right down to the last digit.

Fee and Value: Fees should be but one part of your overall decision. As with any industry, there are Land Surveyors who will quote lower fees. But think about it… you get what you pay for.

Fee and True Cost: A lower fee may cost your project more. Land Surveyors are often the first professional company on the job site. If they are not able to complete work on schedule, this may delay the entire projectand cost you exponentially more to complete the project.

Range of Services: While a lot of Surveyors may excel in just certain services, it is important to hire a company that understands the entire industry and is prepared to professionally handle any project it is presented with. Commercial projects, Residential projects, Environmental projects, and Municipalities projects all have radically different services that pertain to each discipline… it is important to hire a company that has the know-how to work in each.

Experience: When it comes to Land Surveying and Mapping, there are many challenges that can present themselves. Each job will have different factors and parameters that will require a different skill sets. Not only will a great Land Surveyor know how to solve problems that present themselves… they will be able to see issues before they arise, allowing for your project to move smoothly and efficiently. When hiring, never underestimate the value of experience.
